Questions & Answers
Why did you start accepting sponsorship for AndBible?
Why sponsor development time from you?
I have been the lead developer of the AndBible Open Source Project since 2018 and have spent thousands of working hours building it into what it is today. Some noteworthy features I have developed include bookmarking and highlighting, cloud sync via Google Drive, workspaces, comprehensive EPUB support, and the Bibleview.js rendering engine (Vue 3 + TypeScript).
For more about my professional background, see my company website and LinkedIn profile.
How much time can you spend on AndBible?
I have a flexible working contract at my current workplace (GISGRO Ltd), which allows me to take up to one unpaid day per week for AndBible development. Depending on my schedule, I might also work on AndBible on Saturdays and evenings. If sponsored hours exceed what I can fit into that arrangement, I may take additional unpaid leave or use some holiday time for AndBible.
How will the sponsorship be used?
Most of the sponsorship goes to actual software development:
- Writing new features
- Writing tests (quality assurance)
- Fixing bugs
- Code improvements and maintenance
- Deployments to testing and production channels (Google Play and other distribution channels)
I also do related non-development work such as:
- Responding to user emails
- Writing documentation
- Coordinating the project
- Managing feature requests and bug reports on GitHub
How does feature sponsoring work?
See the feature sponsoring page for details.
What happens if there is not enough sponsorship?
I remain committed to maintaining AndBible, but without sponsorship, development of new features and non-critical bug fixes will slow down significantly.
Is the pricing high or low?
My rates are competitive for a senior software developer consultant in Finland. The discounted rates for AndBible sponsorship (65–75 EUR/hour vs. the standard 90 EUR/hour) reflect that this is open source project work that I am personally invested in.
How can I know this is an authentic request for funding, and not a scam?
You can find the link to this shop (https://shop.andbible.org) on the project’s official GitHub Wiki page. This page is also linked directly from the AndBible 5.0+ app main menu (Sponsor app development).
